Bio
Past District Governor Michael Thompson (2022-23) joined the Rotary Club of Marlton in 2012 and he proudly served as President during the 2017-18 and 2019-20 terms. Michael has actively worked to improve community and club relations. In understanding that our greatest attribute is our members, he works as a Council on Legislation Representative (2023-26) and during his governorship he incepted the Drinks with a Governor visits to strengthen relations between district leadership and its clubs. This initiative was seen to meet ‘the people where they are’ and fostered a greater understanding of the purpose of Rotary.
He was appointed as Assistant District Governor in 2018. In 2022, Michael seamlessly transitioned into his elected role as District Governor where he worked to promote resource stewardship and club development through innovation and cooperation with networking as a primary focus. He envisioned creating a more harmonious district that would thrive after his appointment by continuing to place all members and clubs at the forefront of each of the district’s interactions. In Marlton and in his home club, he successfully organized and participated in the club’s Military Appreciation Day events, Annual Pancake Breakfasts, Literacy Programs, 5K Police Union Run, and multiple other community and club service projects.
His service to the Marlton community led to his receipt of the inaugural Power of One Award (2020) and receipt of the Civilian Service Award (2022). His memberships and board appointments to the Marlton Business Association, the Evesham Economic Advisory Council, and the Evesham Education Foundation have been especially important to him in his efforts to stimulate the post pandemic economy for small business owners. He is currently the president of the Evesham Celebrations Foundation.
He has been a Youth Leader at the Marlton Assembly of God, and a coach for the Marlton Recreation League. He has volunteered at the Cathedral Kitchen, Manna, the South Jersey Food Bank, and for the Rise Against Hunger programs which provide wholesome and nutritious meals to hundreds of thousands of people across the world. With Habitat for Humanity and the Marlton Elks, he has worked to house homeless veterans. Michael has an active relationship with the Volunteers of America in which he has assisted in providing toys, clothing, and food to children in local communities.
Throughout his career, he has been given numerous service awards and has been acknowledged for his efforts to eradicate hunger, child trafficking, and educating and inspiring youths to serve their communities with diligence and integrity.
He is a seasoned sales professional with over 25 years of experience in multiple industries. Michael owns the Thompson Group Insurance Agency, also located in Marlton, which was founded in 2017. Through his business, he has partnered with neighboring schools to donate much needed equipment and supplies to Parent Teacher Associations, his business has sponsored the Evesham Fallen Heroes Charity Softball Tournament and has been a sponsor of Marlton Day in Evesham.
Michael attended Goldey-Beacom College where he studied Business and Marketing Management. He has extensive sales and marketing training.
