Bio

Thomas Kozempel is our District 7505 Governor Elect and will be District Governor for the Rotary Year 2023-24.

For the year 2021-2022, Tom was District Governor Nominee and served as District Membership Director. During this time, he ran the districts Serve Better assessment, drafted a Strategic Plan for the District, and oversaw an increase in overall membership, reversing a 3% average decline in recent years.

Tom is a proud member of the Rotary Club of Washington Township. Since joining Rotary in 2015 he has served as Club President (2020), Vice President, Administrator, and Secretary.

To support growth, Tom steered the launch of two new membership options – corporate and satellite Rotarians in Action. He has chaired and actively participated in community service functions and fundraisers, benefiting local children, families, senior citizens, and high school students.

As club president Tom established a new RYLA Teammate program which funded additional students, while reducing the club’s RYLA budget. Tom co-chaired the club’s first Wine Festival-in-the-Park which attracted over 2,000 attendees and raised funds for new ADA-compliant playground equipment. For the past 5 years he has chaired the club’s annual Golf Fundraiser. Recently, Tom used his technical skills to create cloud-based Silent Auction and Fundraising solutions integrated with banking and Rotary websites.

Professionally, Tom enjoyed a distinguished career in information technology (IT) and voice/data/video communications with Fortune 25 companies, leading product development and engineering staffs in the US and India. A certified computer professional, Tom started as a software engineer focused on system and network integration using open technologies and techniques. This included delivery of strategic business systems and transformational architecture programs.

As chief architect Tom drove the business case and enterprise rollout of reusable application services. Later, Tom directed the creation of patented IT solutions for corporate-wide management and secure inter-operation of cross-enterprise software processes and workflows.

Tom’s expertise includes strategic thinking, product development, tactical planning, and consensus building.

Tom is inspired by his three daughters, his partner Elise, and his two sons-in-law. He resides in Medford NJ, and delights in life with his nine grandchildren. Tom enjoys reading, traveling, sports, and trying to improve his golf game.

“I am an optimist who believes kindness appreciates. Rotary is kindness in action. So, I try to enthusiastically promote the power and impact of Rotary, our diversity and global footprint, and how effectively we serve our members, our local communities, and our world.”

Tom has received Rotarian of the Year and Paul Harris Fellow recognition and is a Rotary Foundation Sustaining Member and member of the Polio Plus Society.
